The return to Whanganui after over 30 years absence gave me the opportunity to explore the art and design course at UCol. I love working with glass and after completing a diploma in Art and Design I decided to set up a studio (flash word for garage) and for the past 3 years have spent long, happy hours developing my art. In the fashion trade I was used to working with fine margins and I have loved challenging myself to achieve the same in glass. I have now entered several exhibitions. As anyone working with glass will know, finger cuts and burns are part of the process and I am seldom without plasters on at least one finger or thumb, and usually more! As a side issue I am now 69 years old and loving a new lease on life.
Geometric Exploration 3D: The wall hanging begins as many stringers laid down on a sheet of clear glass, all COE 90. After fusing the stringers to the sheet it is cut into triangles and placed to effect a 3D perspective. The whole piece is then refused to create the whole piece.
